Comments and Gravatar service
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor's IP address and browser user agent string. This is done on the basis of our legitimate interest (Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f GDPR) in identifying and avoiding spam.
An anonymized string (also known as a hash) may be created from your email address and sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. You can find the Gravatar service’s privacy policy here: https://automattic.com. Since Automattic Inc. is a US company, data may be transferred to the USA. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture will be publicly visible alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download images from the site and extract any location data from them.
Cookies
When you leave a comment on our website, you can opt to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is a convenience feature so that you do not have to enter all this information again when you write another comment. These cookies are stored for one year.
When you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will set up some cookies to save your login information and display preferences. Login cookies last for two days, and display option cookies last for a year. If you select "Remember Me" when logging in, your login will persist for two weeks. Logging out of your account will remove the login cookies.
When you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. The cookie expires after one day.
Embedded content from other websites
Posts on this website currently do not contain active third-party embeds (such as YouTube videos or Google Maps) that automatically transmit data to external servers. Should content from other websites be embedded in the future, it will behave exactly as if you were visiting that other website directly (including its cookie and tracking policies).
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we store your data
When you write a comment, it is stored indefinitely, along with its metadata. This allows us to automatically recognize and approve follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users who register on our website, we also store the personal data they provide in their user profiles. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (the username cannot be changed). Website administrators can also view and edit this information.
What rights you have regarding your data
If you have an account on this website or have left comments, you can request an export of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request the deletion of any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Web analytics with Matomo
This website uses the open-source software tool Matomo for anonymous audience measurement. The analysis is conducted entirely without the use of cookies. Furthermore, IP addresses are anonymized immediately. The data collected is stored exclusively on our own server and is not shared with third parties.
Processing is based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in the statistical analysis of website usage to optimize our online services.
Web hosting by Strato
We host our website with Strato GmbH (Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin). When you visit our website, Strato automatically collects visitors' IP addresses and stores them in server log files. This is technically necessary to ensure the stability and security of the website and to prevent attacks.
Data is stored for a maximum of seven days based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We have entered into a data processing agreement with Strato GmbH in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR, which guarantees the secure handling of your data.
